During church this morning someone must have had their phone on because we clearly heard "GET THAT BITCH ON ALL FOURS!" before it was quickly silenced.

On this day...

I broke my regular pair of ½"-⅝" blacksmithing tongs trying to unwrap a coil spring. The tongs were made of spring steel themselves so they were pretty robust to begin with, but they'd lived a hard life. I wanted to make another pair out of spring steel but didn't have anything to properly hold them with so I made a very light duty pair of tongs just for that purpose. They're made of ⅛" mild steel flat bar. They ought to hold up for awhile at least, long enough to make a few pairs of replacement tongs and then be set aside for a backup.

I also made a small S-hook.

Have women just completely stopped trying? It used to be whenever you went out the female half of any couple always looked a little better than the guy. We went out today and I couldn't count how many women were wearing sweatpants and slippers, even when the guy was in nice jeans and a real pair of shoes. I'd have expected better on Valentine's Day.

I remember when we first joined one dad told me how cool it was that they did omelettes in a bag. He said they bring fixin's like potatoes, bacon, onions, cheese, etc and put them in a ziplock bag with the egg mixture. Then then put the ziplock bag into a pot of water boiling over the fire and a few minutes later voilà, instant omelette you can eat out of a bag.

I smiled politely but the thought of boiled omelettes sprinkled in micro plastics didn't sound appealing at all.

Typically when I take my son on campouts with his scout troop they do communal meals. One time we had a more informal campout and meals were on your own. For breakfast I brought my Dutch oven and we fixed fried potatoes, bacon (turkey, insh'allah), and scrambled eggs over the fire. Everyone else brought those fancy bag meals where you just add boiling water and eat it out of the sack a few minutes later. I guess for convenience that's great, but we weren't hiking with our cooking supplies so I kind of felt eating a boiled meal out of a bag wasn't very outdoorsy. I know that's the trend nowadays but it's definitely not for me.

Pizza just doesn't have the same appeal it used to.
