I’m guessing either there isn’t trunking to ours and so they’re going to have to dig up a bit of road again, or hey don’t have resources for the 13m link across our front garden. So GamerCard has been delayed again & the price has gone up. When I first reported on this last year, I was suspicious of the controls and questioned the value. @scottjenson@social.coop Back in the early days of Bluesky, it was a ghost town and engagement here was pretty high. These days, there’s the odd thing here that gets a lot of love, but I’d say engagement is far higher for me in the other place. (Also, conversation is *mostly* good, although it has a whiff of Twitter dickery too, which – for me – this place doesn’t really have.)

Starting to wonder how many people realise how disruptive GenAI could be to the entire tech industry. We’re seeing the odd news piece here and there. Shortages. Cancellations of niche fare. Price rises. But these are gradually growing – expanding out. The long-term ramifications are not great.

We rely on subscriptions to keep the lights on. $2/£2 per month for two issues of original content, which mixes app discovery, tips, my classic iPhone app series, and columns. But I’d feel a whole lot better if more people were paying rather than just reading online (and then grumbling about the ads…) It’s such a fun publication to write for and I’d love it if we could keep going. That in part comes down to Apple and its affiliates schemes being eroded, but it’s also down to a lack of eyeballs on websites and people’s unwillingness to pay for editorial. I used to write Android, iOS and Mac app and game reviews for a range of UK and US publications. Almost everything has been cancelled. Now I’m writing iOS recommendation roundups for just two (Stuff and Swipe).

@serichards@mas.to Yeah, they’re annoying me. Notifications. Then in Settings. I half expect Tim Cook to come round and yell “INSTALL IOS 26” through my letterbox. It’s just so… shite. The design is awful. The legibility is awful. And the scant regard paid to accessibility is depressing as hell, not least because the iOS team has, for me, been by far the best of them regarding vestibular conditions. (iPadOS a bit worse. macOS middling. tvOS couldn’t give a crap.)

@philsplace@mastodon.sdf.org If you don’t like Sequoia, you’re going to detest Tahoe. (Just the rounded corners are enough to put me off. The OS shouldn’t hack chunks off of window content – it’s insane.) As John said, you’d best get your skates on, because pretty soon Apple’s going to flip that switch and it’ll be 26 or nothing on new gear. (Depending on your locale, you could always buy now and return if it turns out you can ‘downgrade’ the newer units. Although I imagine that will be very unlikely.)
